JL Racing second fastest at Calabogie
JL Racing's first weekend at Calabogie this season, once again demonstrated the strength of the 9-3 platform.
Testing began on Friday and the team immediately realized that they would be competitive in the Touring Class. The team made continual changes to the car throughout the day, and gained significant progress in the handling of the car.
Saturday's qualifying session put the team in fifth position on the grid, which was a good start to the weekend. The clouds rolled in and a light rain started to fall as the Saturday race began. Although everyone feared the worst, the track remained reasonably dry and John Lockhart drove a superb race to put the car in second position. Unfortunately, during tech inspection, a small technical ride height issue, meant the team received a DQ.
Although the car was fast on Sunday's race, the steering pump began leaking oil and John Lockhart was unable to finish the race. However, the team are overall pleased with the performance of the car and despite the setbacks, believe the car will be very competitive in the upcoming weekend at Trois Rivieres.
Turpin Saab of Ottawa also held a race event at the track to see the Saab 9-3 in action. A large crowd gathered at the top of the keyhole to enjoy a superb lunch and a grand view of the Calabogie facility. Many of the guests also drove the track in their Saab's during the lunch hour which gave them a new perspective and understanding when watching the race. The event went very well and the team hopes to continue these race events at other tracks.
